Maremma Ability Assessment Guide

The below chart is aimed to be a 'rough' guide to the abilities of the dogs that we currently have in care. It has been designed to help give new adopters a better idea of the nature's of the dogs from  what I have witnessed since they have arrived into care.  Please keep in mind that dogs, once settled, can change or learn new things (sometimes not always good ones) when in different situations or on different properties.

As most of the dogs that come into care are rescues with an unknown history, they are held here and observed for several weeks before I am comfortable in knowing what their temperaments are like and can assess how much exposure they have had to rural life (if any).  Depending on this, I try to find the most suitable situations to match as closely as possible for the new family and the dog.

Please keep in mind that these dogs are very adaptable, and do accept new situations within varying periods of time.  This time period also depends greatly on the abilities (and facilities) of the new owners. Post adoption it is up to the new owners to help settle in the new dog and to supervise behaviours, especially if the dog is to be placed with other animals, the old saying 'you get out what you put in' is very important if you want the dog to better understand what is expected of them.

If you would like to discuss the dogs further, please give me a call on 0418 171896.  Thanks!
